Q. Can you explain Information Architecture (IA)?
Ans. 'Information Architecture is the structural design of shared information environments. Simply put, it’s how content is organized, structured, and labeled on a website or app so that users can find what they are looking for easily. Good IA is the foundation of intuitive navigation and usually involves techniques like card sorting or creating sitemaps.' Tip: Compare it to the blueprint of a house.

Q. How do database transactions work, and what is the role of indexing in optimizing query performance?
Ans. Database transactions are sequences of operations performed as a single logical unit of work. A transaction must follow the ACID properties: Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability. Here's a brief overview of each: - Atomicity: Ensures that all operations within a transaction are completed successfully; if not, the transaction is aborted, and the database remains unchanged. - Consistency: Guarantees that a transaction will bring the database from one valid state to another. - Isolation: Ensures that the execution of transactions concurrently does not affect their individual outcomes. - Durability: Once a transaction is committed, its changes are permanent, even in the event of a system failure. Indexing plays a crucial role in optimizing query performance by allowing the database to find and retrieve specific rows much faster than scanning the entire table. An index is a data structure that improves the speed of data retrieval operations on a database table at the cost of additional space and maintenance overhead. For example, consider a simple SQL query:
sql
SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = '[email protected]';
Without an index on the email column, the database would perform a full table scan. However, with an index, it can directly access the relevant row, significantly improving performance. Proper use of indexing can lead to substantial query performance improvements, especially in large datasets.
